We closed on the 26th of Oct. and were off to the races. The first two weeks were definitely something to Blog about.
Deception; Before we closed we knew of a pre-existing problem w/ a fence and property line. At our closing I asked the seller and his realtor if the issue had been resolved. "Oh, yes it's all taken care of." The next day I met our neighbor and she informed me, that it had not been fixed and that she is sending her lawyers after him.
The former owner decided to put up an 8' fence along the drive separating his domain from our new neighbor. In doing so he impeded on her property line @ a foot.
Writers cramp; you all know what I'm talkin' about. Closing = writers cramp
Hatred; While talkin' to my new neighbors I found out that not many people liked the seller very much. He only lived there for a year and seemed to piss off, the neighbors, his realtor, the family of the old owners, (he bought the place from an old couple that had lived there for 35+ years)....
Crawl space; For the first 2 days I jacked and leveled the house 3" in back and 2" in front. Equipment: 2- 20ton jacks, 15- solid cinder blocks, 16'- pressure treated 2x4 and 4x4, 10 pieces- 1/4 steel plate (cut to 4"x4"), 40lbs- back pain, 10 gal- sweat, 3- lumps on the ol' noggin, tons- of black boogers, all of the sore knees, elbows, and hands you want, and 16 - hours to work. All in all it was pretty easy; considering your lifting A HOUSE! I will post a description and diagram later of the procedure, if anyone needs any info.
Hospital; Our little girl dislocated her little elbow while playing with her mom. Of course it happened when I was @ 1-2 hours from finishing. We spent 3 hours in the ER instead. Hey, we got to visit new hospital in our new home town, and met all of the ER staff. they popped it back in place and she now has the cutest little cast you have ever seen on it. ( they said that it would heal and strengthen faster in a cast)
Chain saws; Nothin' like climbin' a tree w/ a bow saw and cuttin' and prunin' oak trees. These trees missed pruning for @ 15 years. Now I have a lot of BBQ wood. FYI chain saws suck at cuttin' 6" oak limbs if the blade is dull.
I will post pics to brag about my work and show off our great home.
